2010 Egypt 001

On the evening of Fri., May 7, 2010, sixty Honors Humanities students, all seniors at P-CEP, presented an Ancient Egypt Humanities festival at Bentley Elementary.

This was the third year for the event. In the previous two years, the event focused on the Renaissance and Ancient Greece. The students were fully responsible for every aspect of this event, and it was a major project grade for the semester. It all began with an annotated research paper, creative brainstorming, multiple edits of a lesson plan, and practice teaching sessions with Ms. Bates. Then, the students made backdrops, props, posters, costumes and masks.

The project met a wide variety of state benchmarks for research, writing, and public speaking, and gave seniors an authentic audience for their work. Additional Humanities and NHS students came out to volunteer their time in support of the event, and Mr. Meier, principal at Bentley Elementary, gave his enthusiastic support. More than 100 students from Bentley Elementary attended the Egypt Fest, in spite of a thunderstorm and tornado watch!
