2010 Geophysical 001

On May 26 and 27, 2010 at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park, P-CEP geophysical science students collected and analyzed seismic data as part of a massive lab project for their class.
University of Michigan geology students Lauren Miller and Colleen Long brought special seismic monitoring equipment so that students could learn how seismic waves travel through the ground and reflect off the layers under the surface.
P-CEP students jumped high and swung hammers creating "earth tremors." They saw how scientists use this data to learn about earth’s structures, find resources such as petroleum and anticipate earthquake patterns with seismic data.
The two U of M students are members of the FUTURE project, a class at the University of Michigan’s IDEA Institute.
