2010 Rocket 001

Mr. Sterlitz’s Astronomy classes conducted a rocket lab outside of Plymouth High School in early June 2010. P-CEP Astronomy classes have been doing this lab for more than 15 years as part of a unit on Newton’s Law.

Powered by compressed air and water, the rockets were graded on the amount of time they spent in the air. A plain bottle will “fly” for 5 seconds. Students added fins, paint, streamlining and decorations to extend the flight time - and grade. They earned a C for 7 to 8 seconds, B for 8 to 9 seconds and A for longer than 9 seconds of flight.
